Rising Tide Celebrates its First Birthday

Rising Tide Celebrates its First Birthday

One year after our launch, the Rising Tide Open Waters Mikveh Network (Rising Tide) now includes 29 member communities from across the United States, Canada, Israel, Australia and the United Kingdom. In our second year, we look forward to continued growth as we work to open the doors to the mikveh for all Jews, no matter who they are or where they live.

This year we offered multiple ways to support our member communities, including:

  • An online resource portal with hundreds of materials to support members with an existing mikveh or those looking to build one
  • A series of webinars and virtual workshops
  • An in person convening in August 2018 at the Pearlstone Center in Maryland where members came together to learn, connect, and help build the open mikveh movement

Looking to the future, Rising Tide plans to grow and offer more ways to support members. Projects include:

  • Our second annual Rising Tide Gathering in Atlanta, GA, November 10-12, 2019. Stay tuned for more details coming soon on registration.
  • An online International Mikveh Guide Training to offer the highest quality training for more volunteers who can provide a welcoming and inclusive immersion experience
  • A Mikveh Starter Toolkit for new communities
  • Data collection and analysis to better understand mikveh communities
  • More webinars and virtual workshops for members.

By providing for the spiritual needs of the entire spectrum of Jewish people, and by making mikveh more available and accessible, Rising Tide members are helping to create a more vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive community for everyone.

Happy Birthday Rising Tide! It is a real blessing to be part of this movement as we bring the depth of ancient rituals into our modern lives. Whether it is a man singing the Sh’ma for the first time as a Jew, a family reaffirming the Jewishness of their adopted children, a bride with her best friend and her mother behind the curtain as she prepares to become a wife, someone celebrating a clean cancer scan … all these and so many more. It is such sacred work. Looking forward to the coming year and its learning and sharing.
